Selective removal takes away the parts that are no longer bonded under controlled conditions. The substrate is then rebuilt, junctions are protected and the finish is made even.

Tools, products and the access system are chosen according to the substrate and the conditions of the job. Rope access, suspended scaffolding, tube scaffolding or a platform can be used where appropriate; no technique is universally better than the others.
